Record profits triggered a surprise payday for Chevron staff, even as the White House pushes oil giants to cut prices at the pump.
Chevron is giving its workforce a special bonus after posting its best quarterly profit in six years. The reward lands just as President Trump ramps up pressure on Big Oil over gas prices.
The Details
CEO Mike Wirth broke the news in an internal email Monday, seen by Reuters. He praised employees for hitting cost-cutting goals, closing Hess acquisition synergies early, and keeping operations safe despite turmoil in Venezuela and the Middle East.
“Results like these in a year like this are not ordinary,” Wirth wrote. “They reflect extraordinary effort under extraordinary circumstances.”
The bonus equals half a month’s base pay for most staff.
Market Reaction
Chevron’s earnings jump was fueled by soaring oil prices tied to the ongoing war in Iran. That windfall is now flowing straight to employee paychecks.
Trump isn’t celebrating. During a Fox News interview Sunday, he called out Wirth by name for failing to credit the administration for Chevron’s strong results. He followed up on Truth Social: “Get your consumer (retail!) Oil Prices DOWN, NOW!”
Chevron has not responded to the comment.
For traders, this is a reminder that oil earnings and politics are colliding hard right now. Profit headlines are strong, but pressure from Washington could shape how companies price and communicate going forward.
What to Watch
Keep an eye on whether Chevron responds to Trump publicly, and whether other oil majors face similar pressure after their own earnings reports roll in.
