A Tesla-SpaceX union would land between Microsoft and Amazon, but regulators will have questions.
Elon Musk said that merging Tesla and SpaceX would be “a good idea.” Special committees have been formed to discuss it, and the Starlink operator’s shares rose 8% in extended trading.
Key Details
The merged company would sit fifth in the world, between Microsoft and Amazon. The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk ordered a slowdown of a military-grade Starlink service Ukraine relies on. Reuters could not verify that report.
Market Reaction
Asia held up well. MSCI’s Asia-Pacific index outside Japan gained 1.2%, the Nikkei added 1.3%, and the KOSPI hit a one-week high. S&P 500 e-mini futures rose 0.4%.
AI stocks stayed volatile. NextDC lost nearly half its value after cutting revenue forecasts and pausing developments. Elice Group jumped 30% after a rough debut.
European futures rose 0.4%, DAX futures gained 0.4%, and FTSE futures were flat.
Why It Matters
Tesla and SpaceX are two of the market’s most closely watched names. A merger, and the regulatory fight that could follow, may move both stocks. Oil near $110 adds pressure.
What to Watch
Tesla’s Q3 earnings call, plus reports from Meta, Lam Research, Philip Morris and SAP. UK inflation data is also due. Bank Indonesia moved its rate press conference up to 0630 GMT, without giving a reason.
